A CATALYST FOR CHANGE
Meet Liam
About Liam Elkind
Born and raised on the Upper West Side of New York City, Liam Elkind is a Rhodes Scholar, community organizer, and non-profit CEO focused on delivering for our city and country. When the pandemic hit, Liam realized that New York’s seniors did not have the resources they needed and ran to help. He founded Invisible Hands, a non-profit organization that organized over 15,000 volunteers to deliver food, medicine, and other essentials to New Yorkers in need. Under Liam’s leadership as CEO, Invisible Hands delivered over 1 million meals to our friends and neighbors; built professionally-staffed call and dispatch centers; developed a mobile app to deliver food for thousands of New Yorkers.
Liam has been nationally recognized with the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award, a Webby Award, the George H. W. Bush Points of Light Award, and was recognized as one of 2020’s top philanthropists alongside Oprah Winfrey and Magic Johnson. His work has been featured by Good Morning America, The New Yorker, and the Associated Press, and he has built partnerships with both local businesses and national organizations to tackle hunger, health inequities, and isolation head-on.
For months in the pandemic, when desperate New Yorkers reached out to their government for help, they were told to call Liam’s cell phone. Our social safety net shouldn’t depend on one person picking up their phone—we need our leaders to answer the call.
Now, Liam is running for Congress because the same old playbook isn’t working, and we can’t wait. He’s running to make life more affordable, build new housing, invest in public transit, reduce the cost of elder care, and maintain the dignity of senior citizens. Liam won't take one cent in corporate PAC contributions, will fight to enact term limits, and will end the corrupt practice of members of Congress trading stocks. He will also be a fighter for reducing medical debt, encouraging national service, and protecting our constitutional rights.
Liam is committed to building a new generation of leadership in the Democratic Party — one with both the energy and urgency to beat Trump, and the vision to repair the damage he has caused.
A proud graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Liam was Bar Mitzvahed at Stephen Wise Free Synagogue on the Upper West Side. He is fluent in English, conversational in Spanish, and intermediate in Subway Conductor. His bagel order is an untoasted everything bagel with whitefish salad.
